July 31, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Aniston has quite recently signed to star in an upcoming romantic comedy Pumas, reports Variety, about a couple of attractive gals in their thirties who court younger men. What young dude could resist Jennifer Aniston??

And her best bud and Friends costar Courtney Cox, has her own feline-themed sitcom, Cougar Town. Cox plays a similar lusty lady, post-divorce, experiencing the dating world. Do I smell a cougar-off? I put my money on Cox.

Mel Gibson: A Vicious Fashion Critic?

July 30, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Apparently Mel Gibson is beyond DUIs and antisemitic name calling and is on to ripping off the shirts of young fans. Yes, you read correctly. Technically Gibson’s victim wasn’t simply a fan. A Life & Style reporter snapped shots of Gibson and his pregnant girlfriend Oksana Grigorieva, as the two were partying at the grand opening for the new hotspot in Los Angeles, Playhouse. When Gibson’s security guards took the reporter’s camera and deleted the photos, the unrelenting reporter sent in her friend Karlis Gajevskis, with his point-and-shoot to pose as a fan and snap some more pictures. It was then that Gibson took matters into his own hands and tore an eight inch hole in Gajevskis powder-blue vintage tee. Now Gajevskis is filing battery against Gibson!

Doesn’t Gajevskis realize Gibson was merely attempting to turn his tragic Ed Hardy knock-off into a custom Flash-Dancetastic masterpiece?

Either way, I think Gibson should keep his hands off of other peoples garment’s and leave the fashion policing up to professionals.

North African Muse: Egyptian Fashion Inspiration

July 29, 2009 By: areta Category: Fashion & Beauty

North African fashion is all over the runways. From shoes to handbags, dresses to jewelery, Amsterdam to Italy; It’s everywhere. And don’t think for one second this exotic inspiration is out of your grasp. You can walk like and Egyptian with no more than a hundred bucks in your pocket. Shoe designer Christian Siriano has designed a line of shoe for Payless Shoes! His inspiration drew from Egyptian royalty from the sandstone temples and pyramids to the hieroglyphics. The architecture inspired the color palette of light sand, mocha, chocolate, and this amazing Persian green that really makes the shoes come alive! Siriano even created a beautiful print based off an etching found in antique jewelry. Talk about detail. It’s all about luxury, royalty and affordability.

You can also find this exotic Egyptian touch at 2009 Amsterdam International Fashion Week. Emily Hermans reveals both nomadic and royal Egyptian inspired pieces in her new SS2010 collection she calls Getting Lost. Her theory behind the collection is that being lost isn’t necessarily a bad or negative thing, but something all must do in order to find one’s self again.
The nomadic aspect was beautifully visualized at her Amsterdam Fashion Week catwalk show. Not only in the traditional sense, by women carrying all sorts of things on their head. But also by modern nomads with Mad Max-like ratbikes, who have all their possessions hanging from their vehicles.

The royal aspect is expressed in the collection’s pronounced color composition, which includes coral red, cobalt blue and olive green, as well as different shades of gold. Also, jewelry is used as a motive in a number of collection items, by means of color, design, neck shape and the combination of matte and shiny yarns.

July 28, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

The divorce finalizes the dramatic 2 year marriage, most of which, Blake spent in prison. Neither Amy or Blake were at the court hearing which a full minute and a half!

Football all-star Tony Romo ditched Jessica Simpson the night before her 29th birthday. Jessica chose to cancel her Barbie themed birthday party when it became clear that her beau would not come. Jessica is said to be perplexed, with reason! It turns out that non other than her late ex John Mayer may have been behind the split. Apparently Mayer sent some text messages to Jessica but he denies causing the split!

Mischa Barton has been in the headlines this week, for purely bad reasons. Reports circulated that the star was addicted to drugs and alcohol- and friends raised concern- then in scenes that mimic the Britney saga, Mischa was reportedly removed from her home in an ambulance, as per the doctors orders… At least she didn’t shave her head.

Lindsay Lohan has had a smart idea. The pair are working on a documentary, and are due to meet Ryan Seacrest soon to formulate other ideas!

Cook to Your Health!

July 20, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Let’s face it, many of us aren’t accomplished chefs. Many of us don’t even come close! But don’t let this stop you from preparing a healthy quick meal at home without turning to a frozen tray or cereal box. Here are a few easy tips for cooking that will lower your calorie intake and keep savory flavor kickin’. Remember, it doesn’t matter if all you have is a microwave. Fresh, nutritious food is always at your fingertips.

Steaming your food:
Steam-able food isn’t limited to broccoli and asparagus. Although both of these yummy green veggies taste delicious after two minutes of exposure to scorching steam, chicken breasts, shellfish and fish fillets can be steamed also. Steaming meat seals in flavors, eliminating the need for fatty taste enhancers and added salt. Halibut, cod and snapper are three options that steam particularly well.

All you need is a large pot and collapsible basket steamer but if you care to get a little more technical you can try electric steamers or Chinese bamboo steamers. From there, flavoring is as simple as a twist of a lemon. (Don’t bother using salt and spices while cooking because they fall right off).

Pressure Cooking:
Pressure cooking is a method of cooking in a sealed vessel that does not permit air or liquids to escape below a preset pressure. Because of this the liquid in the pot to rise to a higher temperature before boiling and the food inside cooks much faster! Much like steaming your food, pressure cooking seals in delicious flavors that high, dry heat tends to drain away. Pressure cooking is great for stews, risotto, artichokes and even chicken and lamb. Rice which usually takes 45 minutes to cook will only take 15!

The Healthful Microwave:
The microwave has a bad wrap which needs to be put to rest! Believe it or not the microwave is a fast and efficient way to cook low-fat tasty meals. With a medium-size, 750-plus-watt model microwave you can even cook everything from broccoli to fish, from chicken to apples. You can even cook two dishes at once by stacking them. Just be careful an use microwave-safe dishes. Cooking food this way essentially is the same as steaming, helping to maintain good flavor and nutrients.

The Beauty Diet

July 17, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

The Eating Diaries

People are often testing out new diets in order to maintain or lose weight, and The Masthead with Marie Claire recognizes this amongst their own team. However one important result of your diet is not only weight loss, but emotional stability, daily energy and all around health. The age old saying “you are what you eat” isn’t just a wives tale. So be excited because how you feel and look can be under your control!

The Beauty Diet
In order to better understand the power of what we put in our bodies, Marie Claire tests several different diets on their team members. The Masthead’s own associate editor Yael Kohen tries what is known as the Beauty Diet by nutritionist and author Lisa Drayer . Her book Beauty Diet: Looking Great has Never Been So Delicious includes research based nutrition advice to enhance your appearance, specifically what to eat for glowing skin, fuller hair, healthier nails and brighter eyes. Key ingredients in the Beauty Diet include blueberries, sweet potatoes, salmon, and low-fat yogurt, all holding important beauty nutrients.

Eating For Energy
Meredith Bryan, a writer for Marie Claire, speaks with Los Angeles based nutritionist Ashley Koff to gain insight towards an energizing diet. Not only does Koff suggest what to eat but when: every three hours to be precise, a time Koff has deemed “eating occasions”. Each eating occasion you need a fat, a carb and a protein, and many foods count for two categories such as nuts which are both a fat and a protein. So instead of a carb-fest at lunch and a four o’clock crash in the afternoon, how about an avacodo and some pecans and a day filled with energy!?

The Good Mood Diet
Editorial Assistant Jihan Thompson tests a diet for stabilizing emotional health, and maintaining an even temper throughout the day. Susan Kleiner who created the Good Mood Diet gives great advice towards balancing moods through a controlled high protein diet.

Kristen Stewart Baby Bump!?!?!

July 14, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Allegedly the relationship between Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart is blazing out of control. Now, not only are the Twilight stars suspect of canoodling off-screen, sources are saying Kristen Stewart is pregnant with Pattinson’s baby!!! How do they surmise? The London Free Press claims a friend of Stewart was asked to buy a pregnancy test for her at the drugstore, claiming she was late, believing Rob had to be the father. If you ask me, it all sounds like a load of poppycock, and E! Online agrees. Fans love the idea of Pattinson and Stewart romancing behind the scene, and moreover, lusty prepubescent fans of Pattinson love to hate Kristen Stewart. Popcrunch.com reports that Twilight’s die hard fans (deemed Twi-hards) have sent Stewart loads of hate mail for stringing along her smitten costar, while still officially dating her boyfriend Michael Angarano. Boy oh boy is the gossip around these two blistering hot.

Doesnt look Pregnant to me

Doesn't look pregnant to me

Hey, good news if you’re a Kristen Stewart hater! You can see her life threatened on-screen by sexy vampires and drooling werewolves in the newest Twilight film New Moon, said to be released November 20.

And if you’re hyper-zealous to watch her suffering, look back at the 2007 horror flick The Messengers to see Stewart tormented by poltergeists and ghosts. AND If you just like seeing people suffer in general check out Messengers 2, where a scarecrow chases innocent rural Americans around a dilapidated barn. Scared celebrities and more on MeVIO.

NEW Upcoming Show for MEVIO Women

July 13, 2009 By: osperanza Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Hey everyone, I’m just writing a little blog to let you know how our brand new show is coming along. So far we’ve shot two pilots and have collected some really awesome stuff. We’re tweeking and testing our camera shots, concept, content.. basically everything that will make our show exciting and entertaining for you, our wonderful viewers! Think of this new show as a magazine for women that we take to the streets to get feedback and opinions. All of you can also contribute via our blog.
Last week we filmed near a takeout window, neo-soul food spot in San Francisco, Little Skillet. I could hardly concentrate with the smell of fried chicken, waffles and gravy surrounding me in the back alley where we were shooting. We talked to hungry lunch-goers enjoying curb side eats, testing our content out on anyone willing to share their thoughts. The shoot was successful, people seeking lunch in San Francisco alleys are so smart and well spoken!
I’ll be keeping you posted on our progress and launch date, I promise you, you WILL love this show as much as you love chocolate, Sundays and brunch. Yeah, it’s going to be that good!
