Decorate on the Cheap: You can do ittttt!

October 08, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Recession, recession, recession! We all go through times where we’re lacking in the funds department (whether it’s the economy, or self inflicted by that 2-a-day Starbucks habbit), but this doesn’t mean you need to put off decorating your apartment, so listen up!

Meghan has lived in her apartment for over year, and feels it’s time for a change. Never fear, blogger and designer Lauren Flax is here to save the day! Make sure you take note of all the tips and suggestions kids, you won’t regret it.

How much did Meghan’s makeover cost, you ask? Under $200 dollars! Just remember it’s all about accents; it’s the little things that count, and even better is that little things can come in little prices – if you know where to look!

You’d be surprised where you can find some real gems. One of the TMI girls’ top tips is check out the homegoods for kids, like Pottery Barn. NEVER rule out a prospective bargain location (even if it does make you feel awkward and creepy).

One of my personal favorite websites for decorating on the cheap is Etsy.com. All products are made made by

If you don’t mind a little DIY for an even littler price, then this website could be the answer to your prayers.

Here are some of my top pick items that you could use to change your apartment from crackden-chique to c’est magnifique.

Candles are are great, affordable way to create an instant atmosphere.
Set the mood with these dreamy creations that come in lovely scents like yummy caramel soufflé, gingerbread cookie, and vanilla hazlenut latte. Only $2.50 for a set of two.  A word of advice from experience..don’t eat them. They don’t taste nearly as good as they smell.

Where the Guys Are: Marie Claire’s Man Map

October 06, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment

Ever wonder where all the good guys are? It becomes increasingly obvious the more you travel that the type of men in each city vary as much as the climate and landscape. Sort of like Darwin’s designations types of finches relative to geography and food source.

Men in Seattle often enjoy the outdoors, because, of course, there are many outdoorsy things to do there, not unlike Darwin’s cactus finch having a long beak, allowing him to enjoy munching on cacti without the burden of taking a thorn to the chest. It all just makes sense. The Masthead of Marie Claire became a sort of zoologist of men, anthropologists in our own backyard, finding what sorts of habitats the business minded man may prefer, vs. a laid back surfer type. Watch it here and pack your bags to find a suited mate.
