North African Muse: Egyptian Fashion Inspiration

July 29, 2009 By: areta Category: Fashion & Beauty

North African fashion is all over the runways. From shoes to handbags, dresses to jewelery, Amsterdam to Italy; It’s everywhere. And don’t think for one second this exotic inspiration is out of your grasp. You can walk like and Egyptian with no more than a hundred bucks in your pocket. Shoe designer Christian Siriano has designed a line of shoe for Payless Shoes! His inspiration drew from Egyptian royalty from the sandstone temples and pyramids to the hieroglyphics. The architecture inspired the color palette of light sand, mocha, chocolate, and this amazing Persian green that really makes the shoes come alive! Siriano even created a beautiful print based off an etching found in antique jewelry. Talk about detail. It’s all about luxury, royalty and affordability.

You can also find this exotic Egyptian touch at 2009 Amsterdam International Fashion Week. Emily Hermans reveals both nomadic and royal Egyptian inspired pieces in her new SS2010 collection she calls Getting Lost. Her theory behind the collection is that being lost isn’t necessarily a bad or negative thing, but something all must do in order to find one’s self again.
The nomadic aspect was beautifully visualized at her Amsterdam Fashion Week catwalk show. Not only in the traditional sense, by women carrying all sorts of things on their head. But also by modern nomads with Mad Max-like ratbikes, who have all their possessions hanging from their vehicles.

The royal aspect is expressed in the collection’s pronounced color composition, which includes coral red, cobalt blue and olive green, as well as different shades of gold. Also, jewelry is used as a motive in a number of collection items, by means of color, design, neck shape and the combination of matte and shiny yarns.

“Oh, Snap!” Summer-inspired Hot Mess Awards!

July 07, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment, Fashion & Beauty

Oh, Snap! IS BACK and your cheeky host Veronica Mannion is taking over the reigns! Olivia Speranza has been working hard on a new show that will premiere next week. STAY TUNED FOR THAT!

Today on Oh, Snap! — the fashion show that talks smack about celebrity getup disasters so you don’t have to — Veronica reveals the most recent summer-inspired HOT MESS awards.

LINDSAY LOHAN just turned 23 and I guess when you’re a celebrity and you turn 23 you just assume you have the right to dress like a SLUTBAG. The BRONZE award goes to you, Lindsay, for showing up in public draped in ripped fabric, for posing as a trashy wannabe superhero and for NEVER WEARING PANTS.

Next, the SILVER goes to CHLOE SEVIGNY for altogether NOT TRYING. Chloe, you’ve worked long and hard to maintain your reputation as a trendsetter, so why now with the lack of effort?! And FYI, those daisy dukes look too close for comfort. Ew.

And finally, the GOLD “coveted” summer-style HOT MESS TRAINWRECK award goes to Pussycat Doll, MELODY THORNTON for trying to pass a pile of strings off as a dress.

WELL DONE, LADIES!!!

Fashion Designers are Excited for “Bruno”

July 06, 2009 By: areta Category: Celeb & Entertainment, Fashion & Beauty

Austrian fashion designer Lena Hoschek says she’s not worried about “Bruno” – Sacha Baron Cohen’s new film where he plays an over-the-top flamboyantly gay Austrian fashion enthusiast. Hoschek, who is popular for her 1950s pinup girl style, a favorite of U.S. pop star Katy Perry, says she’s actually looking forward to seeing the movie. “I think it’s gonna be a fun film,” she told The Associate Press on the sidelines of the Mercedes Benz Fashion week in Berlin.

Bruno” is the follow-up to the surprise 2006 box-office hit, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan,” in which Baron Cohen played a clueless journalist on a U.S. tour. Munich designer Marcel Ostertag was a little more reserved about his expectations.

He admits he’s looking forward to the film (which opens July 10) but he’s worried that it may give people the wrong idea of the fashion industry. “The world of fashion isn’t really like what he shows,” Ostertag said. “I can laugh about it because I liked ‘Borat,’ but I am also worried if people will take him seriously.”
